Aka Teppan *.

Helloooo! It's Red Nose Day ?_?

I'm reviewing Aka Teppan which is another go-to restaurant for my friend meet-ups.

After trying many items on the menu (I come here often haha), I'd recommend the:

* GRILLED CHICKEN - RICE [Hot Plate]

I always order this with cheese; remember to pour the cheese bits while it's sizzling hot!
Melted cheese, yums! (+ o.99)

* GRILLED CHICKEN - PASTA with herb sauce [Hot Plate]

I like their grilled chicken so I tend to choose it. I tried this way back when it first opened and it wasn't that good but recently I came and they definitely improved a lot. It's yummy and saucy! :)

* MINI BEEF PATTY (3) with cheese inside

These mini patties are so good!! Comes sizzling hot each time.

* SHABU SHABU with beef

Try the Hokkaido Milk broth!! Sounds weird but tastes good :D

^ That's actually Carmen's udon pasta + supreme beef
The pictures of the other foods are in my computer / other phone.. sooo I'll update this one day :P

Caffe Demetre *.

My friends and I used to frequently come to this place for mega-portioned desserts.

We came to Caffe Demetre recently and realized they changed up the ice cream & waffle / crepe selections..They changed their whole menu!

They took away my favourite one! I can't remember the name of it - it's the one with oreo cookie crumbles. Oh well, we had a great time nonetheless.

MOO LA LA + BELGIAN WAFFLE (4/5)
(Roche Ice cream, Sliced Banana, Nutella and Praline Croquant)

Eva and I shared this. I'll probably order this again when I re-visit. The ice cream is so yummy.

Avec Carmen :) wb for a bit!

Still can't believe the others could resist ordering desserts, they ordered coffees & lattes only hahaha
:D

Sweet Esc *.

Eva recommended Sweet Esc for our GNO after dinner dessert session.
Sweet Esc is a boutique sized dessert place with a cute and simple interior.

Note that they have really heavy chairs haha. We were surprised by how heavy they are when we were getting seated. It's probably a good thing - you eat all the calories, then you burn a bit by just moving their chairs LOL.. Eva concluded that *gives her credit*

Both of us ordered from the "Create your plate" menu.

Uuuwah so pretty :)

My order was: (4/5)
* BELGIAN WAFFLES
* Chocolate Cream
* White Miso Ginger Ice Cream
* Cinnamon Crunch

This was so yummy!! I loved my combination and I would recommend it - BUT, change the ice cream to EARL GREY ICE CREAM. I tried my friend's and thought it tasted better than my ginger one.

STEP ONE:
Pour the sauce over your ice cream + waffles.

Side note: I didn't like Eva's brownie bits, get the cinnamon crunch guys!! :P

STEP TWO:
Chowdownnn!

Jules Bistro *.

Pbb searched up Jules Bistro for a double date with our friends.

We all love french cuisine so we were excited to try this place out!
Service was excellent.

DRINKS:

* Angels Gate Cabernet Merlot (red) & La Francette Sauvignon  (the girls)
* Kronenbourg beer  (for the boys)

GRILLED OCTOPUS (4/5)

So delish! We chowed this appetizer down very quickly - we all loved the sauce that it was marinated with. It would be nice if the octopus was a bigger portion haha!

GRILLED SHRIMP (3/5)

Came with bread and a bunch of garlic pieces.

COTE DU BOEUF (5/5)
(24 oz ribeye, frites, mixed greens, ratatouille, spiced mayo)

Highly recommending the côte du boeuf - the meat was tender and juicy; every piece was already sliced up for you! The taste is very addicting. Great for sharing.

RIB EYE STEAK (5/5)
(This was on the special menu of the night)

Similar to the côte du boeuf, the meats were marinated deliciously. It came with sauce on the side (it's for the frites as well); you wouldn't really need it because the meat itself is already really tasty!

DESSERTS:

Crème brûlée (3/5)

The crème brûlée was okay - wasn't as sweet as I'd like it to be :P

Then we all went to Sweet Jesus for ice cream after... #fatties hehehe

Yunaghi *.

❤ Happy May
Happy two years pbb!!
May 1st marks our two year anniversary :)

Pbb and I came to Yunaghi to try out their 9 course omakase.

There is a choice of $80/$100 - we chose the latter since we wanted the toro.

I like the special touches on our paper crane :D except these fanciness doesn't make up for the quality of food hahaha -_-

Service was excellent.

So the pictures below are VERY NICE but the taste? Not so much haha!!

We were pretty disappointed with our food experience here. :*(
We will probably go to Miku again next time hahaha

Here are the 9 course menu:

The items with *asterisk* were the ones that made the $20 difference between the $80 / $100 omakase.

DRINKS:
* Honey Yuzu (me)
* Sapporo (him)

SAKIZUKE (2/5)
[Mountain yam and Almond Snap Pea]

The mountain yam was infused with wasabi flavour; I give this +2 points.
The peas had no taste.

The display of this dish is so cute!

HASSUN (3.5/5)
[Mountain Vege, Bottarga Sushi, Octopus, King Fish, Fiddlehead, Salmon Sakura Sushi, Burdock Root, Sweet Cherry Tomato, Zuke Maguro*]

The sweet cherry tomato was good. The maguro, I expected it to be more fresh. Everything else on the platter was okay.

WANMANO (1/5)
[Shinjo, Carrot, Parsnip, Edamame, Pistachio]

I give this dish a 1 because it was lukewarm when it came out ?_?
Is it supposed to be a hot / cold dish? The taste was off too.

HIYASHI BASHI (3/5)
[Asparagus, Dashi, Rutabaga, Celery Root]

The interesting thing about this dish is that the salty mochi (sticky rice) was asparagus flavoured.
Pretty cool :O

MUSHIMONO (2/5)
[Egg, Clam, Rapini]

This was disappointing because I love Japanese steamed egg custard (chawanmushi).
There was not enough taste to this, too bland for my liking :(

YAKIMONO (1/5)
[Cod, Shio Koji, Red Pepper, Jerusalem Artichoke, Calamari*]

Biggest disappointment of the night D:
I don't recall ever not liking any codfish dishes.. but this codfish had no tasteeee lollll

NIMONO (2/5)
[Pork, Ginger, Red Cabbage, Daikon, Pearl Onion, Beef Pâté*]

The +2 points all goes to the beef pâté. Both my boyfriend's and my dish's pork chunks were raw.
We actually returned both our dishes to our waitress lol

SHOKUJI (3.5/5)
[Sea Bream, Konbu, Sakura, Toro*]

We were so happy that something we had was actually sizzling hot!! *finallyy*
This was good - rice + soup mix together with the sea bream.

KANMI (2.5/5)
[Yogurt Mousse, Hojicha, Rhubarb, Raspberry, Strawberry]

Very creative with the plating and decor of the dessert but the ingredients that they chose to mix together for this dessert doesn't seem to blend well together.

We will not return -_-"

And here's our snap from the weekend :D
